Lesotho Clothing and Allied Workers Union gets agreements with two Taiwanese producers

 Lesotho Workers Win Union Recognition

Following a year long campaign to defend workers rights in Lesotho, the garment workers' union has achieved a significant breakthrough at the country's two largest garment factories. The Lesotho Clothing and Allied Workers Union (LECAWU) recently signed an agreement with management at two garment factories, C&Y Garments and Nien Hsing International, both owned by the Taiwanese multi-national Nien Hsing. The agreement recognizes the rights of union shop stewards and establishes procedures for resolving issues between union and management. Management at both factories has also begun to deduct union dues from workers' pay cheques, thereby recognizing that the union has signed up more than 50% of the workers at both factories.
